Hey, listen to me!

“Hey, are you listening?

I’m hurting.

My shoulders are killing.

My eyes are dry and sore.

And my legs feel like jelly.

Aren’t you going to do anything about it?”

Sigh…

I heard this all afternoon.

And I thought ” Stop whining and get on with it!”.

I even forced him to carry on.

-

But then no matter how focused and determined you are…

Once you’ve worked out how to get organized – and stop procrastinating – to build momentum in your business, you still have to give yourself time to recharge the batteries.

Remember to schedule short time slots for rest, relaxation, and fun.

To reinvigorate the mind and body, and occasionally reward yourself too.

-

And today, after spending hours working at the computer, came a point where my brain and body complained loud enough to remind me I hadn’t used my timer – and completely ignored this obvious need.

Hence this short and simple post.

Lesson (re-)learned.

    Yann – You are so right about the need to schedule some time to get away and give your mind a rest. Rod and I have been working long hours trying to balance our work time and family time. But we were still feeling very burned out and our girls had about had it with our limited involvement in their lives the last few weeks. At 4 and 6 – they just don’t get that it’s about their future! So we decided yesterday to turn off the computers and take a family day at the beach which fortunately is only an hour or so from our home. After being away for a day from the grind it has made a world of difference – not only in our outlooks, but the girls’ as well.

    I;m reminded of Covey’s observation that a bow that remains bent too long will eventually break!

    Great reminder!

  16. You’re right, it’s so easy to get wrapped up in something and not take a break from sitting at a computer – not least because the internet offers so many built-in breaks that don’t move you away at all!

    I read a study recently that was saying people’s eyes would be much better off if they reminded themselves to blink more often than they tend to when sitting in front of a computer. A break from the PC altogether is just as important.

    I like the idea of using a timer. Recently, I was on a ‘laser coaching’ call with a writing coach who used a timer — 10 minutes was what we got to ask our focused question and hear her answer. And, when the timer went (loudly) she said ‘time’s up’ and hung up. I had to admire her for sticking to her rule.

  18. I should definitely use a timer. Everything seems to take so long on the internet. I have missed the schoolbus, burned dinner, and been late for work on several occasions because I get lost on the internet. Great advice.
